Mom creates free site for kids' scripture study

Angela Roberts searched for a free scripture
reading site that her children could use for their
personal scripture study. But she couldn't find one.
So she created it. Scriptures 4 Kids (online at
scriptures.4kids.com) launched in February.
Currently, it includes 71 different Doctrine and
Covenants and Book of Mormon stories.
"I decided to come up with a system that would
allow our children to study the scriptures daily
at a very young age," said Roberts of Queen
Creek, Ariz.
Each scripture story has four reading levels
to choose from, audio narration for each level,
an accompanying coloring page and a story
question meant to launch insightful
conversations within families.
But this isn't just for LDS families.
"I felt inspired and excited about not only being
able to develop something that would benefit
my children but something that could benefit
children all over the world," Roberts said.
And within the last few months thousands of
visitors have clicked into Scriptures 4 Kids
from more than 150 counties. Roberts explained,
"We currently have the site being translated into
several languages and are adding new languages
all the time. Our goal is to make daily scripture
study available to every child throughout the
world who can get their hands on a computer."
One of the most unexpected reactions to the site,
Roberts found, is that children are not the only
ones using the site. Autistic and special needs
adults are using the site because it puts
comprehension and understanding within their
reach," Roberts said.
"New converts are using the site because it
gently introduces them to the scriptures in a
non-threatening way. Adults who struggle with
scripture study are using it because it makes
scriptures more fun. Children and adults from
all over the world have contacted us with the
news that they are using the site to learn English."
Roberts has big dreams for future site development,
hoping to soon expand into the New and Old
Testaments ("we have had several non-members
ask when the Bible stories will be done") as well
as to provide an iPhone app version of the online
